WIN Wyoming (Wellness IN Wyoming) is a statewide health improvement/promotion initiative whose mission is to educate people to respect body size diversity and to enjoy the benefits of active living, pleasurable and healthful eating, and positive self-image. The initiative has grown to a 56-member multi-disciplinary network representing a wide range of agencies, organizations, and departments at the local, state, and university levels. Accomplishments to date include development and wide dissemination of 19 guiding principles that expand on the four areas of the mission statement; a presentation entitled "Size It Up!" which has been delivered to over 4000 youth and adults within and beyond Wyoming; incorporation of WIN Wyoming materials and assessment questions into the Cent$ible Nutrition Program, UW CES's program for limited resource audiences; funding for three model projects; a nationally promoted conference held in Jackson Hole and co-sponsored with the Wyoming Dietetic Association; and inclusion of two questions in Wyoming's 1999 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey related to frequency of choosing super-sized portions and frequency that self-consciousness about body size discourages physical activity. A 1999 survey sent to all 56 WIN Wyoming members and returned by 41 (73%) documented many changes in attitude and behaviors, both personally and professionally, among these respondents.
