Healthy Families Nevada: A Healthy Collaboration to Develop Healthy Families

Research has demonstrated that intensive home visitation programs can be successful in addressing a host of poor childhood outcomes such as failure to thrive, lack of school readiness, and child abuse. Healthy Families Nevada, in collaboration with state and county social service agencies, implemented a parenting education program for referred families. The success of the program depended on referrals from hospitals, schools, health department, agencies and local Infant Support Districts. Learn the "dos and don'ts" of establishing coalitions as well as strategies that were successful in bringing everyone to the table to meet the objectives of the program which were to prevent child abuse and neglect while building family strength by providing parenting support through ongoing home visits.

Learn how a Hispanic component was added to the program and how the Hispanic community was involved. Explore the importance of involving the media and including them in collaborations. Discussion will include the implementation of needs assessment, marketing the program and the importance of evaluation for future collaborations and future funding.
