Conference Objective:
This presentation relates to Concurrent Session Objective 4: strive to broaden horizons without broadening workload.
Abstract:
Like the recent adage "it takes a village...", doing Extension work takes an office team in which support staff play an integral role in our respective units. The diversity of working styles, constant but changing and sometimes conflicting program demands, and a variety of county and clientele needs and interests provide challenges and also opportunities which necessitate support staff's working in tandem with agent and others. Presenters, representing an office team, share positive and not-so-positive experiences and initiate audience discussion regarding building unity and recognition through cooperation.
Using the CORD acronym–Challenge, Opportunity, Recognition, Disregard–as a theme to address this topic, various aspects of teamwork among Extension support staff, agents and specialists are "tied together". These fit into the broad categories including concept of team; working styles and habits; communication; programs and education; cooperation and consideration; responsibilities and support; organization; flexibility; creativity and initiative; and professionalism. Sometimes our office teams seem hierarchal and we tend to forget and maybe even disregard the different ways in which each team member contributes to an effective team that delivers Extension programming.
